HOW DO YOU GET THROUGH A CRISIS

February 19, 2012

Our country has gone through many kinds of crisis. Crisis that are both man made and considered acts of God. Which in my opinion is a very bad term. Why is it that we call a sad natural catastrophe an “act of god” and then when times are good and victorious we credit it to ourselves? Maybe this is something we should think about.

Anyways…. We have  a very strange way of getting through the different crises that have came our way.

A few days after typhoon Ondoy, I joined a relief operations group and we rode a small Bangka and visited the far places of the flooded areas in order to distribute relief goods. Guess what I saw? Water that has gone beyond house roofs with people practically staying on top of their roofs yet you still see a smile on their faces.

They say that as a people we are resilient and I think we are. But being resilient alone does not make us stronger. We need to evaluate the experience, learn from it and be determined to prevent the same problem from occurring in the future. This is why this material I got from the Internet really made me laugh. It is entitled: “21 Thoughts to Get You Through Almost Any Crisis.”

Now here is a warning. Do not take this material seriously. This is part sarcasm part plain humor. Following this material will be totally disastrous so take this as something humorous and again, do not take it seriously.

Here is the material.

21 Thoughts to Get You Through Almost any Crisis:

1. Indecision is the key to flexibility.

2. There is absolutely no substitute for a genuine lack of preparation.

3. Happiness is merely the remission of pain.

4. Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.

5. The facts, although interesting, are irrelevant.

6. The careful application of terror is also a form of communication.

7. Someone who thinks logically provides a nice contrast to the real world.

8. Things are more like they are today then they have ever been before.

9. Anything worth fighting for is worth fighting dirty for. That’s bad.

10. Everything should be made as simple as possible but no simpler.

11. Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate. Oh how I believe that.

12. I have seen the truth and it makes no sense.

13. Suicide is the most sincere form of self-criticism. And it’s the biggest cop out too.

14. If you think that there is good in everybody, you haven’t met everybody.

15. All things being equal, fat people use more soap. Now that’s being politically incorrect.

16. If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

17. One-seventh of your life is spent on Monday.

18. By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.

19. Not one shred of evidence supports the notion that life is serious.

20. There is always one more imbecile than you counted on.

21. Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty and the pig likes it.

Comedienne Lucille Ball says: :The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.”

Again, do not take this seriously. Of course all form of lying is sinful. But here is the key. When you go through a crisis, pray. Never forget that God is in control. Keep your mind clear and put your trust in God. This is the only part of the material that is serious and truthful.

So learn the lessons.

    Hi sir francis,

how are u? I’m joanne from lasal bacolod! i hope u can still remember me. 🙂 i just want to ask some advice on what is the best thing to do. I am a working student and a bread winner in the family. I work in a call center for 2 years already. I have to work to support my family and to support my studies. The company I’m working now is very understanding especially my boss. because I’m studying i have to change my schedule at work and we had some issues, our director wont allow me to change my sched so what we did is we keep it secret. I change my shift to a grave yard shift in order for me to study during day time. at first it was easy but as time goes by it gets harder each day. everyday I only slept for 3-5 hrs sometimes 2 hrs. I always got sick. I have this routine for almost 10 months now and there was this incident, I leave my station and go to sleep for 1hr before my sched break, by the way i’m in a none voice accnt. and then i got to use of it so I did it for how many times until my boss found out what I always do during my shift. she was so angry with me and told me to give me a notice to explain and i know this will lead to termination. I ask her if she can delay it because i just want to finish the semester then i will face all the consequences. this was happened last month and now I am waiting for my manager’s decision. its been bothering me and i am thinking what will happen to me after i will be terminate and how can i continue my studies. I know in the first place that its my fault. But you know what i just can’t handle everything.. i am so tired already that i even want to gve up but I can’t because my family is depending on me. I am tired of sacrificing and yet gained nothing. i envy my friends who are graduating this year. i always ask myself when will this end? I really don’t know what to do now and I don’t have the courage to go find another job. do you think I will really be terminated of what i’ve done? do i still ahve the chance to continue my studies? what should i do to be motivated?please help! 😀 thanks!

Thank your for taking the time to write. What you are currently doing is not sustainable. You lose your health, you cannot work well and neither could you study well too.
I would recommend that you look for another job that can sustain your schedule and even if the pay is not so good as long as you can concentrate on your studies. Get through it and over it and then find a more fulfilling job. Meanwhile, your family should find other means to help themselves out but you need to help yourself first or else you would not be able to help others.
      I hope this helps.
      Francis
