Talking Dirty or Talking Truth

There’s a difference between talking dirt about a person and telling the truth about a dirty person. Sharing the truth is necessary to protect others from someone’s schemes, lies, or manipulations. That’s not “judging” if what you’re saying is factual, fair, and verifiable. Banks do background checks. Employers call references. Credit card companies verify your history. In the same way, sharing truthful information about someone’s character can serve as a warning, not a gossip session. But here’s the line: Speaking negatively about someone without just cause often says more about our character than theirs.
