Economy Class
Last week I got a letter from The Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Miles Club that instantaneously changed the smile on my face into a slight frown. I couldn’t understand it. They have downgraded my status from “Elite” to “regular” informing me that I have not met the required sectors or mileage for year 2007-2008. This came to me as a surprise. I take a local flight every week (or maybe every other week) and I have in fact traveled more times domestically last year compared to the previous years.
And then it dawned on me. I have always persuaded the organizers of my speaking events to book me on PAL flights as I usually take the first flight out and would prefer the comfort of the Mabuhay lounge for a little bit of rest and preparation. But due to budget considerations, organizers book me promo tickets that do not provide miles credit and thus, the downgrade.
IF by Rudyard Kipling
Gone are the days when good and great poems were taught and appreciated.
“I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree...” This seems to be the only piece that is familiar to a lot of motorists as they travel through the highways. I used to write poetry. And the day I started my role as news editor for my college paper I stopped doing it. While there seems to be a slight surge in poetry in certain circles how I still hope that more people would take it seriously.
It’s not easy to write poetry and it’s not easy to understand it.
What Is In Your Short List
I’ve heard people say, “Having too much of anything is not good for you.”
And then some people would say. “Not having enough is bad so you must have a little extra on the side.”
So which one is which? Here is the key.
You can have just about anything you want in life, but one of the most difficult things to achieve is balance.
I see this happening all the time. There are clients who tell me business is good, but they're not taking care of their health. Or, another example--they're making money, but their personal finances are a mess. Or, how about those people with a wonderful home and family, but no time to enjoy them?

If you feel that this material will be able to help someone then by all means download it and spread it to as many people as you like. This would be your way of helping others too.
So let me conclude with the final principle.
Do Job Search as a full time job.
Prepare your resumes. Throw them everywhere. Realize your advantage and opportunity. The connections you have made all these time. Get out those business cards and your Microsoft Outlook files and start scouting around. Be productive with your time. Widen your perspective. To those who have been laid off specially in the service sector, picture yourself as an expert in the people business. The amount of training you have had in dealing with people and meeting their needs would qualify you for jobs that require an equally sensitive position.
Dealing with Layoffs, 10
All strategic planning first has to come from strategic thinking. And here are 4 things you require in order to launch a good working strategy.
1. You need a time of solitude. A quiet time experience if you will. Intervals of solitude.
By the way, it is important to remind yourself that solitude is not loneliness. Solitude is a chosen form of isolation; it is good for you. It provides you with the necessary dimensions of space and time to figure things out, to work things through. It is good to be alone but it is never good to be lonely.
